The street address is the input. It is geocoded to a point (latitude, longitude) and that point drives the ASCE 7 Hazard Tool wind-speed lookup, the jurisdiction lookup, and the Special Wind Region check. A ZIP code can narrow the search but cannot locate the building: a ZIP centroid can sit miles from the site and cross wind-speed contours, jurisdiction lines, and Special Wind Region boundaries, so a ZIP alone is not accepted and does not certify the site, code edition, or exposure.
